A Musical Potpourri All Over Greenville This Weekend
Craig Sorrells Project
Last week we talked about how The Radio Room featured 11 bands (nine of them local) were each taking a turn on stage over a four day stretch from Thursday through Sunday. From what I saw personally and gleaned from others in attendance, the whole weekend was a huge success in showcasing the local music scene. That said, this weekend serves up something completely different as a number of local and regionally touring artists from Asheville to Atlanta are bringing a broad array of musical genres to several venues around town making sure that there is indeed a little something for everyone in the days ahead.
Thursday kicks off with the return of longtime Upstate mainstay with a Craig Sorrells Project Reunion at Gottrocks. Sorrells brand of horn forward funk and soul was a staple on the local scene for years before he relocated to the SC coast and been absent from Upstate stages for what feels like ages. His reunion show promises the return of the band’s original lineup as well as a few secret “heavy hitters” making appearances for what is sure to be a memorable evening.
Cloak
If you are looking for a bit heavier way to spend your Thursday night, Atlanta’s Cloak is headlining The Radio Room with support from special guest Demiser out of Columbia. Cloak is an intriguing blend of rock infused black metal while Demiser brings a thrash element that will make sure your ears will still be ringing when you get to work on Friday morning.
Speaking of Friday, Charlotte’s Jail Socks brings my personal guilty pleasure style of pop-punk to The Radio Room. This is catchy, yet thoughtfully written, pop-punk at its finest and I am glad this stubborn music genre shows no signs of going anywhere anytime soon. Homesafe, Arms Length, and local favorites Quality Time round out the evening just to further drive that point home. For those looking for something on the more relaxing, jam band side of things, Grateful Brothers will bring their blend of Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers inspired tunes to Gottrocks that same evening.
