Brother Oliver reimagines Les Misérables
Psychedelic folk-rockers Brother Oliver released two imaginative renditions of “Stars” and “I Dreamed a Dream” this past weekend. The cover songs breathe a new kind of life into the classic songs, packaging them in a digestible, modern format with an indie pop / folk vibe.
Vocalists have been recording their own versions of the Broadway classic since the play’s inception, but seldom do those versions venture into a new interpretation genre-wise. And that’s exactly what Brother Oliver does with these songs.
Brother Oliver (who star in the new movie How To Break A World Record) has made a name for themselves over the years with their innovative approach to folk / rock music—brooding lyrics, thought-provoking themes, and electric mandolin washed in psychedelic layers and effects has been their forte.
Needless to say, the Les Misérables subject matter fit the bill for their style—loosely religious, disconsolate, and deeply spiritual. Listen for yourself below:
