We all love a little nostalgia. For die-hard fans of The Lord of the Rings enterprise (or even casuals), the 1977 cartoon, The Hobbit, by Rankin/Bass was a staple of our childhood viewing repertoire. The classic animated film was an introductory force for many to find interest in the novels and the franchise at large.
Much less talked about is its soundtrack—which was as iconic to the film as Bilbo himself. In light of that, the newly released Glamdring by Andrew P. Oliver is a gateway transport into the nostalgic melodies and choruses of those classic songs. Original created in 2016, the album is now available for streaming for the first time.
Glamdring features seven tracks, each spinning off a different portion of the original film’s soundtrack. Fittingly, it opens with “The Greatest Adventure” and starts the journey from there.
